Do you know – about the GWO Slinger Signaller and the new GWO Crane and Hoist training?

The NEW GWO CHBU (Crane and Hoist Basic User) – 2 days training
Compared with the GWO Slinger Signaller, you will in this new GWO CHU learn about how to operate wind industry related lifting equipment and accessories of a size (e.g. 8 metric ton /metre) that do not require legal or formal licence to operate in the location of a wind farm (offshore and onshore).
You will also learn about basic slings and in general how to operate smaller cranes. The GWO CHBU Training Module covers the below listed lifting equipment and lifting accessories:

1) Davit/TP Cranes: Power operated (electrical and hydraulic), Manually operated and Combined operations. 2) Boom Cranes: Fixed radius boom crane, Telescopic boom crane and Knuckle boom crane, in the configurations - with fixed hook or anchor point, with winch/hoist function or electric and hydraulic drives. 3) Types of Hoist Systems are Jib cranes, FlexiCranes, JibFlex, and overhead and gantry cranes with chain hoist, wire hoist or rail/Trolley system chain, wire and rope hoist.

This standard has been developed in response to the demand for recognizable generic Crane and Hoist training in the industry and has been prepared in co-operation between the members of GWO based on risk assessments and factual incident and accident statistics from G+ and the wind industry.

GWO members like SiemensGamesa, Vestas, Ørsted ect. agree that everyone working on one of their properties (wind turbine generators, sub stations, etc.) shall complete Crane and Hoist courses relevant for their assignments.

The GWO SLS (Slinger Signaller) – 2 days training
The scope for the target group is personnel working within the wind industry conducting slinging techniques and signalling during simple lifting operations.
In this training the students achieve knowledge, skills, and ability to appropriately respond in the event of a hazardous situation and to increase their safety through proper use of personal protective equipment, emergency equipment, procedures, and safe craftsmanship.

In other words, overall for the new GWO CHBU the students learn about cranes, the hoist and how to operate smaller cranes, while you in the GWO SLS achieve high skills for slings and about communication.

ADD ON training. For the GWO CHBU, the participants can add the new GWO module – the Crane and Hoist Inspection and Maintenance (CHIM) training.

GWO CHIM (Crane and Hoist Inspection and Maintenance) – 2 days training (expected GWO release in July 2023)

The aim of the training is to enable the technician to inspect, maintain, and test cranes and hoists complying with relevant legislation and according to relevant manufacturer’s inspection and maintenance manuals and documents.

Learning objectives are that the participants can recognize the importance of inspecting and maintaining cranes and hoists in accordance with manufacturers’ manuals and legislation (Knowledge, basic level), and also be able to take responsibility to perform inspection and maintenance.

The new GWO Crane and Hoist standards are expected to be released in the start of July 2023.

At Global Wind Academy, we expect to have achieved the GWO certification and be able to provide the first GWO Crane and Hoist training, and also the Crane and Hoist Inspection and Maintenance training in August/September 2023.
